The group of Prof. Yngve Hamnerius of the Department of Electromagnetics of Chalmers University in Sweden has vast expertise in modelling and measurement of electromagnetic exposure as well as the study of the biological effects of electromagnetic fields. Research in this field started in the seveties with the development of microwave exposure systems for bio-effect studies. During the last five years the group has worked on measuring electromagnetic fields in and around telecommunication systems, such as GSM base station antennas and TV and radiotransmitters. The group also works on computer simulations of the fields from mobile phone antennas and absorption in the human body.

Prof. Yngve Hamnerius is a consultant for the Swedish government concerning the biological effects of electromagnetic radiation. He is a board member of the Bioelectromagnetics Society, founding board member of the European Bioelectromagnetic Association, national representative and steering committee member of COST 281 and national representative of COST 286. He is also the secretary of the Radiation Protection Committee of the Royal Academy of Sweden.
